NGOs Unite to Support Top Hill Primary School's Hurricane Relief Back-to-School Efforts

Monday, August 26, 2024

Winsome Wishes for Kids (WWKIDS) and Give Back Jamaica, Inc. (GBJ) are proud to join forces in a vital initiative to support the Top Hill Primary School in the district of Top Hill, St. Elizabeth.

The school, which serves nearly 200 students, suffered extensive damage due to the devastating impact of Hurricane Beryl on July 4, 2024. The surrounding community of Tryall District was also hard-hit, with over 75% of the students' families losing their homes and belongings.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors and the success of our fundraising efforts, we were able to provide essential back to school support to more than 90 students, including uniforms, shoes, school supplies, and light refreshments. The handover event, scheduled for 10 a.m., saw eager families lining up as early as 9 a.m., anticipating the much-needed assistance. Prior to the event, on July 25, families were invited to register for support, during which time children's shoes and uniforms were carefully measured to ensure a perfect fit.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our donors from Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, New York, and the United Kingdom. A special thanks goes out to our corporate partners—Sammy’s Shoes, Timarely Haberdashery, Tiny Tots in Santa Cruz, Totally Delicious and Bishop Paul Brown and the First Pentecostal Assembly of God—whose thoughtful and generous contributions made this initiative possible.

This collaboration represents a powerful synergy between two organizations dedicated to humanitarian efforts. With a shared mission to improve the lives of young people, WWKIDS and GBJ are committed to delivering programs that support childhood development, enhance classroom experiences, and improve living conditions for those in need.

Together, we are making a meaningful difference in the lives of these students and their families as they prepare for the new school year.

Outreach

WWKIDS Outreach Programme - September 2022 - Back to School, Riverton City Community

Winsome Wishes for KIDS is in Riverton City Community, Jamaica.  Our grassroots efforts saw us visiting Brand New Life Church of God in Cross Roads, and the Riverton City Community Center. WWKIDS shared about the wonderful game changer literacy tool, the Graphogame App, which was gifted to all children of Jamaica. Also donated was a brand new iPad, (won by a female high school student through an essay competition), two refurbished computers, along with back to school supplies.

WWKIDS Outreach Programme - May 2022 - Read Across Jamaica Week

Reading is Fundamental!

Winsome Wishes for KIDS took to the road to showcase the importance of reading aloud to children in Jamaica.

Between May 2 and 6, 2022, the team visited (3) parishes and (10) schools all across the island, reading to over 500 students. See the highlights below.

Parishes: Kingston, Saint Andrew and Saint Elizabeth

Schools: Appleton Estate Basic, Lannaman's Prep, Shortwood Primary, Shiloh Primary, Stella Morris, Unity Prep, Vaz Prep, Whitfield Town Primary, Wilbert Basic

WWKIDS Outreach Programme - July 2021

Winsome Wishes for KIDS is in Queenhythe, St. Ann's, Jamaica with Kelvin Peart, the selfless young man who saw the need to provide educational support for the children in his community during a difficult 2020-2021 school year.

Last Friday, we also visited Three Miles, Kingston, Jamaica, where we met the daughter and husband of Mrs. Mckoy Phipps, the creative, passionate and selfless teacher who also kept the children in her community learning last school year. In both communities, the children lacked devices.

WWKIDS donated children's story books and workbooks, in collaboration with St. Bernard's School in NY, and Vaz Prep School to these communities.
